Our History

Founding of PCRC

The Pretoria Cycling and Racing Club (PCRC) has a long and heartfelt journey behind it. PCRC already existed in 1974 when oom Dirk van der Merwe joined the club at the age of 9 years old.

Over the years, the club evolved and for a time operated under the name Speke, but around 2020, oom Bulla Prinsloo and oom Dirk van der Merwe decided to revive the club under its original name, PCRC.

Together, they began working to rebuild and register the club officially.

Sadly, during this time, oom Bulla passed away, leaving a deep mark on the club and everyone who knew him

Oom Bulla's son, Eduard Prinsloo, stepped in and together with oom Dirk, they completed the registration of the club.

From there, the club steadily grew, including nightrides, organizing the PCRC Rooiwal Challenge, and building a strong and inclusive cycling community.

Sponsorship and Support

Alongside this journey, Anton from Cycle House and Citi Protection stood by us as loyal sponsors from the very beginning—from our first Rooiwal race to our first official kit, and still support us to this day.

We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering support and commitment to PCRC.

Today

In 2025, PCRC goes digital and gets a new website.

Today, PCRC is more than just a cycling club. It’s a story of resilience, friendship, and shared passion, powered by riders of all ages and stages.
